Methods
This research was performed after approval by the Ethics Research Committee (CEP) of the institution. The hospital group is considered one of the largest complexes in Brazil, and the main hospital for public patient care in Minas Gerais state (1,070 beds SUS - Unified Health System). Thus, one can consider the survey to be representative of the state population.

Results
Table 1 shows the associations between all of the issues and factors characterizing the population, with respect to the intention for organ and tissue donations for transplantation. The study population was composed of 31.4% men and 68.6% women with 10.47% up to the 25 years, 20.93% between 26 and 35 years, 21.76% from 36 to 45 years, 23.59% between 46 and 55 years, 14.62% from 56 to 65 years, and 8.64% older than 65 years. Discussion
Our results showed a favorable opinion about organ and tissue donation. The statistical analysis revealed the level of schooling, age and marital situation of the respondent in terms of donation intent. However, we did not interview people in the context of mourning the loss of a family member or loved one, although the psychological disturbances experienced in these situations surely influence opinions on donation. We avoided these cases seeking to rule out the possibility of contaminating the
